Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Japanese Pass 2 (“the App”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses and shares information when you use our mobile application for learning Japanese. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. The App requires you to sign in with Google or Apple. When you sign in we receive your name, email address and a unique account identifier from the sign-in provider. Authentication is handled by our backend provider, Supabase.

Learning data. To provide the service and sync your progress across devices, we store data you generate while using the App, such as: chapters and stages completed, practice and review history (including spaced-repetition scheduling data), bookmarks, learning statistics (e.g. study streaks and total study days) and your selected JLPT level.

Purchase information. If you purchase a Premium subscription, the payment is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never receive your credit card or full payment details. We use RevenueCat to validate purchase receipts and manage your subscription status; RevenueCat receives purchase receipt data and your account identifier for this purpose.

Advertising data. Free versions of the App display ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may collect device information such as your device's advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS / Advertising ID on Android), IP address, coarse location derived from IP, device model and ad interaction data. We do not collect this data ourselves; it is collected by Google as described in their privacy policy.

Settings stored on your device only. Preferences such as language, notification time, sound and vibration settings, and your display name are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers.

2. How We Use Information

  • To provide, operate and maintain the App, including syncing your learning progress across devices;
  • To process and manage Premium subscriptions and unlock paid features;
  • To display advertising to users without a Premium subscription;
  • To send the daily study reminder you schedule (notifications are generated locally on your device);
  • To respond to your support requests;
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Advertising

We use Google AdMob to display interstitial ads to free users. Depending on your region and choices, ads may be personalized or non-personalized:

  • European Economic Area / UK: on first launch you will be shown a consent message (Google User Messaging Platform) where you can choose how your data is used for advertising.
  • iOS: personalized ads are only enabled if you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. You can change this anytime in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
  • Android: you can reset or delete your Advertising ID and opt out of ads personalization in Android Settings > Google > Ads.

Premium subscribers do not see ads. For details on how Google uses data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

4. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

Premium subscriptions are billed through your Apple App Store or Google Play account. Apple or Google processes your payment information under their own privacy policies. We use RevenueCat to validate receipts and determine your subscription entitlement; this involves processing your purchase history within the App and a pseudonymous user identifier. 5. Third-Party Services

The App relies on the following service providers, each processing data under their own privacy policy:

  • Supabase — authentication and database hosting for your account and learning data
  • Google — Google Sign-In and Google AdMob advertising
  • Apple — Sign in with Apple and App Store payments
  • RevenueCat — subscription management and receipt validation

6. Data Sharing

We share information only: (a) with the service providers listed above, to the extent necessary to operate the App; (b) when required by law, regulation or valid legal process; or (c) to protect the rights, safety and property of our users or the public.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account exists. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by using the Delete Account option in the App's Settings, or by contacting us at [YOUR CONTACT EMAIL]. Once deleted, your learning data cannot be recovered. Data held by Apple, Google or RevenueCat is retained according to their own policies.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) between the App and our servers. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. International Data Transfers

Your information may be processed and stored on servers located outside of your country of residence, where data protection laws may differ. By using the App you consent to such transfers.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below. If you are in the EEA/UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the App or on this page, and the “Effective date” above will be updated. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
