Frequently asked questions
Is the app free?
Yes. The first 20 chapters of every JLPT level are free to use. A Premium upgrade unlocks all chapters on every level and removes ads. Premium is available as a range of subscription options as well as a one-time lifetime purchase.
How do I sign in?
You can sign in with Google or Apple from the login screen. Your learning progress is tied to that account, so signing in with the same account on a new device restores your progress automatically.
How do I change the app language?
Go to Settings → Language and choose Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, or English. The interface updates immediately.
How does the Review (spaced repetition) work?
Items you study are added to a review queue. The app schedules each item to come back right before you're likely to forget it, with the interval growing each time you answer correctly. Open the Review tab to clear the items that are due today. Once an item is fully mastered, it stops appearing.
What is Free Practice?
Free Practice lets you build a custom session. Pick any combination of JLPT levels, chapters, and question types, choose how many questions you want (1–100), and practice without affecting your roadmap progress. Find it on the Review tab.
I can't hear the pronunciation audio.
Try the following:
- Turn up your device volume and make sure it isn't connected to a silent Bluetooth output.
- On the Gojūon (五十音) chart, tap a kana cell to play its sound.
- If audio still doesn't play, close and reopen the app, then check that you have a working internet connection.
I'm not receiving study reminders.
Open Settings → Notifications and turn them on, then set your preferred Notification Time. You also need to allow notifications for Japanese Pass 2 in your device's system settings. If you denied the permission earlier, enable it from the system Settings app and reopen Japanese Pass 2.
How do I edit my username?
Go to Settings → Account and tap your username to change it.
How is my progress saved and synced?
Your progress, streak, bookmarks, and review schedule are saved to your account and synced to the cloud. Sign in with the same Google or Apple account on any device to pick up where you left off.
Premium & subscriptions
How do I restore a purchase?
Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple or Google account used for the original purchase, open the Premium / upgrade screen, and tap Restore Purchases.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed and managed by the app store, not inside the app:
- iPhone / iPad: open the Settings app → tap your name → Subscriptions → select Japanese Pass 2.
- Android: open Google Play → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → select Japanese Pass 2.
Cancelling stops future renewals; your Premium access continues until the end of the current billing period. A lifetime purchase is one-time and never renews.
How do refunds work?
All purchases are processed by Apple or Google, so refunds are handled by them:
- Apple: request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Google Play: request a refund through the Google Play Store order history.
Account & data
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account and confirm. This permanently deletes your account and all associated learning records and cannot be undone. If you have an active subscription, remember to cancel it separately in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
How do I log out?
Go to Settings → Account → Log Out. Your progress stays safely in the cloud and returns when you sign back in.
Where can I read the Privacy Policy?
Our Privacy Policy is available here: View Privacy Policy. On iOS you can also reach it from Settings → About.
